Which Stag Do Accommodation Should You Pick?

Deciding on the best stag do accommodation throws out plenty of things to think about. Stag do destinations across the UK offer a wide range of different places to stay for a stag weekend. That's why we're here, writing this and why we'll always be happy to answer your questions over the phone .

Whatever you're looking to get from where you're staying for the stag do, it will exist somewhere in the UK. We'll run you through all of the best stag do accommodation options and what each has to offer, giving you tips and hopefully helping you to decide on the type that best suits you and the group's needs.

Once you've found the right one, or if you have any questions at all, drop us a line or send a quick message and we'll happily answer them for you.

Hotel

One of the most popular types of stag do accommodation is to stay in a hotel. Whichever stag do destination you're looking at, there will more than likely be multiple types of hotel, offering up all sorts of things.

If you're looking to head to a larger city then the options will be even broader, so it's best to have a specific idea of exactly what you require/would like from your stay.

Jury's Inns are really popular as stag do accommodation as they are great city centre locations, offering comfy rooms and delicious breakfast (included in the price). If you're not too fussed about being right in the centre then several great stag do destinations across the UK are home to Village Hotels which are similar to Jury's Inns but more often than not offer a pool and awesome gym on top. Village Hotels are only normally around a 10-15 minute drive from the centre as well so it's something to think about.

Both of these hotels are priced reasonably, but if it's budget you're after then you can usually find a hotel to act as more of a base and roof over your heads. Somewhere, for example, like a Travelodge works really well in this guise. More and more Travelodges are becoming paired up with chain restaurants like The Harvester too, so breakfast can be included in the room price and if not, it isn't  going to cost you much.

Wherever you go for your stag do, if you're looking for a hotel to stay at, have a good look at all of your options as you want to make sure you're happy with where you'll be staying for a weekend.

Hotels offer lots as stag do accommodation

House

Another really popular stag do accommodation option is to hire a private house. There are thousands of private houses for hire for stag weekends across the UK. From apartments to mansions and all that's in between, you can find an almost unlimited list of private accommodation to choose from.

The great thing about private hire of a house etc, is that you can choose wherever suits you best. Whether you're looking to stay in the centre or the outskirts, or completely in the middle of nowhere, you'll almost certainly find something that you like the look of. There are loads of options and staying in private accommodation gives you more flexibility and home comforts than staying in a hotel, but it's vital to make sure to check that the owners are happy with stag groups. If you don't mention this from the off, you could wind up losing a deposit when it comes up in conversation later down the line.

It's also important to state that most privately owned stag do accommodation is based on a fixed price. This means that if you start off with 20 and hire a big house, then 6 people drop out, the price per person is going to be loads more for those still going. It's just a good point to consider.

Youth Hostel and Bunkhouse

Staying in a youth hostel/bunkhouse means very affordable stag do accommodation. These are somewhere between a hotel and a house. Most standard room rates are on a self-catering basis, but a lot of hostels do offer food options if it's something you're really keen to have.

There are youth hostels all around the UK and even in bigger city centres (e.g Bristol). Most have private rooms to stay in, often with en-suite facilities, so you won't end up sharing with members of the public and end up feeling awkward when you're getting changed and/or ready to go out in fancy dress.

Despite the city centre hostels being great, if you're looking to get away from  busy streets, there are some fantastic rural youth hostels/bunkhouses to stay in. These are perfect for things like canoeing and bushcraft trips as they won't leave you feeling complacent before heading off into the wild for a day or two.

This option is popular for those looking for a great balance of comfort vs. cost.

Canal Boat

A stag do canal boat weekend is a rapidly growing option for stag do accommodation and there are a few good reasons why. First of all, there's the element of escapism and not being crowded by bright lights, overwhelming traffic and the lure of all the expensive city places to go. It's just you and the stag do group cruising through the countryside, stopping at (often numerous) pubs along the route and heading into towns/cities for activities or to get supplies.

Around the UK there are dozens of scenic routes to explore, including tunnels and lots of locks to work your way through. Some of these routes include locks to add in a bit more of a challenge, some have tunnels, others have aqueducts, but all of them give you the chance to explore scenery you may never even have known was there.

If you do choose this stag do accommodation, it's basically like a floating private house and so you can still have lots of activities. The boatyards for canal boat hire are often close enough to large towns or cities so you will be able to have the same activities as on any other awesome stag weekend.

As with private accommodation, canal boat hire is based on a fixed price, so this is something to keep in mind. If group size drops from the original size, you could potentially still end up covering the initial price between the people who will still be going.

Camping

Choosing to camp for your stag accommodation will give you great savings and really let you get away from everything. It's not everyone's first choice, but if you are happy to have less home-comforts (unless you live in a tent) then camping is a great way to have some real R&R.

There are hundreds of fantastic camp sites all over the UK, from fully-equipped sites with showers/kitchens, to those where you pay for the pitch and bring everything else.

If you want to add wild camping into your stag weekend, then a canoeing and bushcraft trip is a great way to do this. With different locations across the UK, you can learn some basic survival skills like building your own shelters, making fires, foraging etc and camp in stunning wild surroundings. These are extremely popular and if you're interested then it's worth getting in touch sooner rather than later to avoid disappointment.

Yurt Campsite

If you're not happy to commit to full-blown camping with wildlife and s**t, then maybe you might be interested in staying somewhere which is still in more remote places, but offers a lot more luxuries and comfort. There are some amazing yurt sites scattered around the UK, which offer private hire of all of the yurts (we think mainly to make sure no small children end up with psychological scarring from stag-do-goings-on).

It's basically, so instead of poxy tents, you stay in huge bell tents which fit in one or two double beds, frequently a stove and you'll normally have fire pits, BBQs and occasionally an indoor area with cooking equipment like an oven, utensils, access to a shower etc.

With the whole site to yourselves it makes for an excellent choice of stag do accommodation as you have loads of freedom and even though you will be out in the countryside you'll still never be too far from some great activities.

Examples of some great places with this on offer are Dorset and Exeter.

Home

Stay at home may now have a new connection with a part of your brain that you'd rather forget, but staying at home could be a great stag do accommodation choice.

First off, you know the area really well, so you'll know exactly how far away places are if you do want to take part in any stag do activities. Basing yourself at home also means that you keep costs down. You won't have to pay any extra to stay home, apart from any sneaky extras that you decide to maybe get in to celebrate.

Going back to the activities, there are some great activities that can come to you (as long as there's enough space), such as zorb football, a sports day, life drawing, butlerettes and more. You could travel to a local town/city for activities/nightlife and wake up at home and that sounds pretty good to us.

Stay home, stay safe for your stag do

- Cheers to an easy option -
