On arrival at The Oxfordshire Shooting School we ask that you head into reception to let us know you’re here. We have a cosy shooting lodge with refreshments so you can make yourself at home. You will then be introduced to your instructor and given a safety briefing and all safety equipment, including hats, ear defenders and glasses. Accompanied by your instructor, you can then move onto the ground to start your session.
Do you need a shotgun license?
No, as long as you are accompanied by a licence holder or booked in for a lesson / shooting session with an instructor. If you do have a shotgun license we highly recommend that you bring it with you when visiting the ground, as this will affect your ability to purchase cartridges and hire guns. Will it hurt?
No, shooting a shotgun should not hurt provided that the shotgun is held in your shoulder correctly. Our instructors will show you how and ensure that you are comfortable and confident whilst handling the gun. What should I wear?
We recommend wearing comfortable clothing suitable for the weather, as you will be outside during your session. Sturdy footwear such as walking boots or strong trainers are advised. There are pathways all around the ground so it is fairly dry underfoot. All safety equipment can be provided. If you dress for a walk in the countryside you can’t go wrong. Is there an age limit for when you can start shooting?
We recommend a minimum age of 8 years old as children need to be strong enough to hold a shotgun and to concentrate throughout the session.
